THE NEED:
There is an increasing number of computer savvy migrant populations
around the world. This new class of citizen needs all kinds of information
to settle in a new city. What could be better than supplying
this information to these populations in their native
language?
THE SOLUTION:
CityAmigo has been set up to create an international network
of community web sites that offer a "one-stop-shop"
for all the needs of any migrant to a new city. These
web sites are offered in the native languages of the migrant, as
well as the local language. In the case of the city of London we
are offering the community site LondonAmigo.com in Spanish, Turkish,
Polish, French, German, Portuguese, Mandarin, Arabic and English.
We are expanding our network globally to create a community of recognised
first-stop information portals.
The sites offer the following services:
Survival
Guide: How & what do I need to do/know when
I move to a new city: registering with the tax office, finding
a place and which area, getting a job, registering for a GP, finding
schools, driving license, where to shop, social life, leisure
time, sports…
Classified
advertising: Buy/Sell Goods & Services

by us

happening in town, from quirky to popular events

Our most valuable feature is our Survival
Guide. We encourage users to enter comments, questions or advice for others, building a social network of mentors
helping other members of the community find their way. This builds an invaluable database of content driven by the
users and their real world experiences.
In order to promote the site, we are organising various social
events: parties, language exchange meet ups, sports leagues, hobby
clubs bringing a real-world social networking aspect to the project.
Doing this we are blurring the world of on-line and off-line social networking. Combining the instant reward of on-line with
the reward of physical human interaction.
